Director of UUMP Kim Patterson
Kim Patterson earned her bachelor’s degree from Western Carolina in English and drama and went on to teach high school for six years. After raising two sons, Kim started teaching at Binkley Preschool in the 3-year-old classroom. She has been the Director of UUMP since 1994. Kim supervises staff members and is responsible for health and safety issues, curriculum planning, financial issues, parent education, and the social, emotional, physical and spiritual development of the children. She is also an ex officio member of the Preschool Board and a member of University United Methodist Church. She lives in Chapel Hill with her husband, Jerry.
Jane Borotto (4 Year Old Lead Teacher) has been teaching at UUMP since 2004. She has a BS in Elementary Education from West Chester University, PA. Jane previously taught first grade and then worked as an assistant director of an accredited preschool. She loves the family unity at UUMP. Her goals for the children are to build confidence and nurture compassion. She feels children learn best with hands on discovery and a variety of opportunities to experience the world around them. Kids love humor, and you will find it in her classroom. She knows that a positive preschool experience will pave the way for a successful Kindergartener. Jane grew up in NJ and has lived in Chapel Hill since 2001. She has two children, a son in college and a daughter in high school.
Christy Smith (4 Year Old Assistant Teacher) received her AA degree from Saint Mary’s College and her BS in Child Development from Meredith College. She went on to complete an internship at Duke Children’s Hospital to become a Child Life Specialist. Christy’s motivation to teach preschoolers comes from her desire to prepare children to be socially and emotionally ready for kindergarten. In the classroom it is also her goal to encourage creativity, imagination and individuality. Christy was born and raised in Chapel Hill, and continues to live there with her husband, son (who attended UUMP in the 2, 3, & 4 year old classrooms), and step-daughter.
Cindy Renn (3 Year Old Lead Teacher) entered UUMP with 15 years experience teaching preschool. Prior to becoming a preschool teacher, Cindy graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and went on to build her own Graphic Art and Design business. She brings her passion for art into the classroom. But art is not all you will find in her classroom. Cindy incorporates a variety of language activities, science, cooking, music, and loads of fun into her preschool days, all of which help to prepare the children in her class for Kindergarten
Katie Rucker (3 Year Old Assistant Teacher) had been an active parent volunteer at UUMP for several years before joining the staff.
