History

University United Methodist Preschool has been in operation since 1987.  The vision for the school came from a dedicated committee of church members who spent more than two years researching and planning the school’s program prior to opening its doors.  The preschool was taken on as a mission of the church.  When the school first opened it had only one classroom.  From one classroom and 29 families, UUMP has expanded to accommodate more than 70 children and their families.  The school now has four classrooms, a newly installed playground, and use of rainy day space for inside “playground time.”  The staff includes a director, four classroom teachers, and four assistant teachers.

Philosophy

University United Methodist Preschool (UUMP) provides a loving and nurturing environment that enables children to develop spiritually, emotionally, socially, intellectually, and physically.  UUMP believes that all children are children of God and the expression of religious beliefs and cultural attitudes reflecting racial, national, and economic diversity is welcomed as an opportunity to enrich the personal and spiritual lives of children.
